A New Beginning

Not only is a new year coming quickly around the bend, but my little family and I have taken a life-changing step. We have moved to the other side of the globe, leaving Jerusalem and most importantly the expatriate humanitarian existence we have led for so long behind. We have decided to settle down in domestic bliss near Victoria, British Columbia. I am originally an Eastern Canadian gal, but climate and nature on the West coast has always appealed to my husband and me - so here we are at last!

We woke up to this scene early our first morning. Snow is a seldom sight here but it was definitely a welcome one on our part.

Being seriously jet-lagged (waking up at 3:00 am), we were out and about making a snowman - the first one ever for my youngest and the second for my eldest. Quite the occasion! The neighbours must have thought we were nuts being out so early!

 After more sunlight emerged, we could see more of what nature was offering us.

Here you see the Olympic mountain range over in the US and the Pacific Ocean, the latter just a short walk away.

A few hours later the snow melted away. Save the suffering snowman, one would never have guessed that the ground had been white. To add insult to injury (for the snowman), the sneaky (rein?)deer ran off with his carrot nose in the night.

No more long trips for these kiddos for a while! Luckily we have so much to discover just in our little nook of the world.
